Welcome to Vista Virtual School

  • We are an elementary, junior high, and senior high school that is very proud of its students and their accomplishments. All Vista Virtual staff are committed to helping our students succeed!
  • Students are provided individual attention by their teachers through phone calls, e-mails, Skype, face-to-face meetings, written feedback and guidance on their assignments.
  • With our online students have flexibility in where and when they learn.
  • An individualized timeline is provided to ensure that students complete their full program of study in our online elementary, junior high programs in the current school year.
  • Like other schools, we have student/teacher/parent interviews, a grad ceremony and other interesting field trips planned throughout the year to help connect our widespread school community.
  • Distance education is a great option for many students. Keep in mind that students and parents enrolling in Vista Virtual School are expected to organize and monitor their time more closely than they might in a traditional school setting. We are happy to discuss success strategies that have seen our students use and we can help you create the conditions for success!
  • Our teachers and support staff are ready to assist you by telephone on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. using our toll-free number: 1-855-974-5333, ext. 5317 or you can e-mail us at vvsupport@phrd.ab.ca. Vista Virtual School operates from September to June but we do offer summer high school programming and the option to register all grades during July and August.

How is Vista Virtual School similar to a traditional classroom setting?

  • Students need to enroll in compulsory core courses (Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies) at each grade level.
  • Our goal is to have students complete courses by the end of the school year for both the elementary and junior high programs and by the end of each semester in the high school program.
  • Teachers are always ready to help and expect that students will ask for assistance regarding course work and assignments.
  • Course work is done on one unit of study at a time in each course, submitting completed work regularly for evaluation.
  • Assignments and modules are typically be completed sequentially so knowledge gained in one assignment helps with the next.
  • Students are given feedback with the hope that they will follow suggestions to improve in successive assignments.
  • Final marks are based on assignments, quizzes, and exams.
  • Vista Virtual School students also receive report cards and a monthly mini-report each school year.

Registration for the 2017-2018 school year opens after May 1, 2017.
