COURSE COMPLETION DEADLINES AND EXTENSION POLICY

PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR EXTENSION POLICY HAS BEEN UPDATED AS OF SEPTEMBER 1, 2023!

GRADE 1-9

Grade 1-9 students are expected to complete their courses in June. Extensions are not available.

Compulsory core courses — Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies — are available at each grade level and Health is added for grades 7-9. Grades 1-3 courses are print based, grades 4-6 courses are a combination of online and print, and grades 7-9 courses are online. All students are required to submit assignments electronically into Moodle. Visit our Course Catalogue for a full list of our course offerings.

GRADE 10-12

International or out-of-province students have up to six months to complete core courses or 3- or 5-credit elective courses, and three months to complete 1-credit Career and Technology Studies (CTS) courses.

In the event that an international student in grade 10 to 12 requires a course extension, they can submit a practical completion plan to their teacher for approval. Please note that the extension period is three months, and a maximum of two extensions can be granted per course. This allows international students students enrolled in 3- or 5-credit core or elective courses up to one calendar year to complete the course, and up to 9 months to complete a 1-credit elective course.

  • Any requests for extensions must be made before the end of their six-month (core or 3- and 5-credit elective courses) or three-month (1-credit elective courses) course period. This means students have the opportunity for up to two extensions, but they must still complete the course within the one-year (core or 3- and 5-credit elective courses) or nine month (1-credit elective courses) time frame.

Once a student completes a high school course, their marks are reported to Alberta Education. Students in an eligible Grade 12 course must complete a diploma exam in order to have a mark on their official Alberta Transcript of High School Achievement.

Those looking to withdraw from a course must fill out and submit a Course Withdrawal Request Form. Students under 18 must have their withdrawal form filled out by a parent or guardian.
