Best Wishes for Ramadan 2022

Vista Virtual School would like to wish its Muslim students, colleagues, families, and community members a very happy and safe month of Ramadan, which began last night at sundown. For many Muslims the world over, this year’s is a very special Ramadan as it is the first time since the beginning of the pandemic that people will be free to pray and partake in iftar (evening meals) together as a community.

For those of you unacquainted with Ramadan, here are some basic facts.

  1. Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam, the five practices that observant Muslim are expected to follow.
  2. Ramadan happens during the 9th month of the Islamic calendar. It then lasts the whole month.
  3. Observant Muslims fast during Ramadan, meaning no eating or drinking during sunlight hours. Children generally aren’t expected to fast until they reach the age of 14. Also, pregnant women, elderly people, and people who are sick aren’t expected to fast.
  4. The dates of Ramadan change every year, because the Islamic calendar is based on the moon, not the sun.
  5. Muslims eat a special meal before each day of fasting, called suhoor, and after sunset, called iftar.
  6. The end of Ramadan (May 1 this year) is marked by a big feast called Eid ul-Fitr.
  7. You can wish someone a happy Ramadan by saying “Ramadan Mubarak,” which means “have a blessed Ramadan.”

Ramadan Mubarak!
