Schulich Leader Scholarship

Schulich Leader Scholarships are Canada’s most coveted undergraduate STEM scholarships.

Fifty are awarded to entrepreneurial-minded high school graduates enrolling in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math program at 20 partner universities across Canada. Twenty-five are valued at $100,000 for engineering scholarships and 25 are valued at $80,000 for science and math scholarships.

Every high school in Canada can nominate one graduating student each year to apply for the scholarship.

Am I Eligible?

Student eligibility criteria:

  • Graduate high school in the 2019/2020 academic year
  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Be entrepreneurial-minded and plan to enroll in an eligible STEM program at a partner university
  • Meet at least two of the following criteria:
    • Academic excellence
    • Leadership (entrepreneurial or community)
    • Financial need
  • Not planning a career as a medical practitioner or researcher. This included doctors, dentists, nurses, psychologists, pharmacists, optometrists, etc. this scholarship is for entrepreneurial-minded innovators outside of the medical community.
How do I Apply?
  1. See if you are eligible.
  2. Submit your name to VVS for consideration by Wednesday, January 15, 2020.
    • Speak to your VVS academic counsellor, teacher, or administrator about why you deserve to be nominated for this scholarship.
  3. VVS will choose one student to nominate for the scholarship.
    • Nomination deadline: January 29, 2020
  4. Student nominee submits scholarship application. The online application includes:
    • The universities they wish to attend
    • Their top three achievements  – academic or other (50 words maximum per achievement)
    • Essay demonstrating why they should win (600 words maximum)
    • Optional essay to outline extenuating circumstances (250 words maximum)
    • Short answer to identify where they see themselves in 10 years (50 words maximum)
    • Two single-page letters of reference that include email and telephone contact information for verification
    • Copy of up-to-date transcript, credit counsel summary or detailed academic report
    • Headshot profile image for publicity
    • Application deadline: February 19, 2020
  5. Universities make offers.
    • Winners confirmed: March 1 – June 15, 2020
