Vista Virtual School grade 12 student Tate McRae has just hit another major milestone in her already high-flying pop music career, with inclusion in Forbes magazine’s 2021 Top 30 Under 30 list. Not only that, but at age 17 she is the youngest nominee on the 2021 list in the music category!
The Calgary singer-songwriter may still be in high school, but you would never know it from her resume. At the age 13 she became the first ever Canadian finalist on the US reality TV show So You Think You Can Dance. From there she achieved YouTube renown with her 2017 hit “One Day”, which she released on RCA Records two years later before releasing her debut EP, All the Things I Never Said, in January 2020.
Tate’s latest hit single, “You Broke Me First”, went viral on TikTok over the summer, accumulating more than 250 million streams worldwide. The song peaked at number eight on the Canadian charts and won her top ten standing in ten other countries, as well as plaudits from MTV and Billboard. You can read more about her eventful pandemic year in her interview with Spin magazine in October.
Tate is currently scrambling to finish grade 12 ahead of a hectic 2021 schedule, which includes a European tour in the fall.
Congratulations on your latest milestone Tate! We couldn’t be prouder to count you as one of our own!
