Learning Without Limits
Welcome to March!
March is another busy month as our elementary and junior high students are well into the second half of their school year and our senior high students are working through their second semester courses.
We always welcome your comments. If you have any questions or concerns, please phone us toll-free at 1-855-974-5333 or talk with your teacher, and if you have any stories you’d like to share of your experiences with VVS—and how you balance your diverse needs or achievements (including winning awards, scholarships, etc.), contact vvsupport@pembinahills.ca.
Sincerely,
` Mike Loitz, Treena Bradbury, Frank McCallum,
Principal Associate Principal Associate Principal
Alberta Provincial Budget
In light of the Alberta provincial budget, we understand that parents and students likely have many questions and we do not yet have all the answers. There has been considerable coverage about the planned closure of the Alberta Distance Learning Centre and we would remind parents and students that Vista Virtual School is an entirely separate school, although we are in the same school division.
We thank you in advance for your patience in the coming weeks, as we review the Alberta Education Funding Manual to help determine our own programming for students for the future.
Alberta Distance Learning Centre (ADLC) Courses Deadlines
March 31 is the deadline to register into 3-5 credit courses with ADLC and May 15 is the deadline to register into 1 credit courses with ADLC. June 15 is the deadline to complete all ADLC courses.
Upcoming Activity
Friday, March 13 from 1:00 to 3:00pm: High School Planning Session for Grade 9 Students
Grade 9 students will have the opportunity to attend at our Calgary or Edmonton Campus to learn what is required for a high school diploma, course sequencing, and available courses (cores, CTS, etc.). Each student will create a high school planning chart, which will also meet the required outcome for Unit 6 in their current Grade 9 Health course (Preparing for High School, Lesson 2, the High School Planning Chart).
