Every year, Vista Virtual School (VVS) recognizes our students’ accomplishments through an Award Ceremony. Students may apply or be nominated for an award; others are automatically granted based on student grades.

Application-Based Awards

PHSD Grade 12 Citizenship Award

Deadline to apply is June 30, 2020

This award recognizes two senior high Grade 12 students with a $500 award. Interested students complete the online or print application form. Applications are reviewed by a selection committee at each school. Students who receive this award meet at least three of the following criteria:

  • Demonstrates responsibility
  • Helps/supports others
  • Has a positive attitude
  • Displays kindness to others
  • Works towards goals
  • Listens to others
  • Is honest
  • Has the courage to do what is right
  • Respects others
  • Shows concern for others
  • Is dependable

Raju Family Distance Learning Award

Deadline to apply is June 30, 2020

The Raju family established this monetary award to recognize full-time elementary, junior high, and senior high students who show diligence in their work while studying at a distance. In addition to consistent hard work, students must also demonstrate good citizenship in caring for others. For the purposes of this award, success is measured in terms of the positive differences students make in the lives of others. Students who receive this award may use the money however they choose.

A student may apply for the award themselves or be nominated by a teacher, another student, etc.

Alberta Teachers’ Association Award (Sub-Local No. 22)

Deadline to apply is June 30, 2020

An annual scholarship of $1000 is presented to one graduate pursuing a career in education. The principal of Vista Virtual School chooses the recipient of this award based on qualifications that include success in distance learning and an overall academic record of at least 70% in each of the four core subjects.

Nomination-Based Awards

PHSD Citizenship Award – Grade 1 to Grade 12

Deadline to nominate is May 10, 2020

At any time throughout the year, students can be nominated for a Citizenship Award. Students are recognized with a certificate and medallion. Nominated by a staff member, community member, or another student, this award recognizes students who meet at least three of the following criteria:

  • Demonstrates responsibility
  • Helps/supports others
  • Has a positive attitude
  • Displays kindness to others
  • Works towards goals
  • Listens to others
  • Is honest
  • Has the courage to do what is right
  • Respects others
  • Shows concern for others
  • Is dependable

Principal’s Awards

Deadline to nominate is June 30, 2020

To recognize outstanding involvement with VVS, two students and two families will be honoured with a framed certificate.

  • Principal’s Awards – Students: These full-time elementary, junior high, senior high or adult students will display an exceptional work ethic, striving to achieve the best of their ability. These students demonstrate participation and cooperation with teachers, positive attitude, and strong work ethic.
  • Principal’s Awards – Families: These families will strive to assist student excellence, participate in student learning, cooperate with VVS staff, and initiate contact with VVS.

Students and families are nominated by Vista Virtual School teachers and staff.

Merit Awards

Deadline to nominate is June 30, 2020

Students can be nominate by their teacher for a Merit Award. These certificates recognize consistent student effort that results in significant improvements in academic achievement, organizational skills, or quality of work. Merit Award certificates are also presented to students who display acts of compassion in their communities or demonstrate a significant commitment to volunteerism.

Grades-Based Awards

The following awards are automatically given out based on student grades and attendance.

Honour Roll

Honour roll certificates are presented to full-time students who have achieved an overall average of at least 90% in grades 1 to 3, 85% in grades 4 to 6, 80% in grades 7 to 9, and 80% in at least four core courses in grades 10 to 12.

Top Marks

Senior high students who earn the highest mark in any given course are presented with Top Marks certificates.

Elective Honours

The Elective Honours award recognizes students who achieve honours-level marks (80% or more) in a combination of four or more Career and Technology Studies (CTS) options, second languages, Physical Education, and Career and Life Management studies.

Graduate Awards

Our Graduate Awards recognize VVS students graduating from elementary, junior high, or senior high school after having completed the entirety of said educational interval at VVS.
