Phoebe Arcilla

I have been a teacher for 24 years in Alberta. My Alma Mater is the University of Alberta. I have been in the Pembina Hills Public School District for 14 years and have taught math and electronics from grades 7 to 12.

I am a mom of two young men in their early 20s. My partner is also a teacher and we live in Calgary. Something not many people know about me is that I was born in Barrhead, Alberta and my parents came from the Philippines. I play women’s hockey, back-country hike, and love cross fit training. In the last couple of years, I did several 10 km runs in and around Calgary. I hope to do more this year.

I enjoy mentoring and coaching robotics teams from grades 5 to 12 in my extra-curricular time. My teams have competed in international robotics competitions in the past. I believe we are within the first part of a worldwide technological revolution involving artificial intelligence and automation. We need to educate ourselves in the mastery of the programming of it before it masters us.
