Information About Our Work Experience Courses

Courses Offered:

  • Work Experience 15 (OTH1998),
  • Work Experience 25 (OTH2998)
  • Work Experience 35 (OTH3998)

Prerequisite: Workplace Safety Systems (HCS3000)
Credits: Earn 3, 5, or 10 credits based on your logged work hours (1 credit per 25 hours). Remember, you can apply up to 15 work experience credits towards your high school diploma requirements.

Tuition for Adult Students: Capped at $750 for up to 20 credits of work experience and career internship courses

How to Enroll

  • Contact your Off-Campus Coordinator: They will verify your prerequisites and employment/volunteer placement.
  1. Submit Your Application: register online through Vista Virtual School.
  2. Complete the Online Course Introduction.
  3. Work Agreement and Learning Plan: Collaborate with your employer to complete these.
  4. Schedule Worksite Inspection: Ensure your worksite meets Alberta Education’s guidelines.
  5. Begin Your Course: Once your worksite is approved, you are ready to start your course!

Important Guidelines:

  • Supervision: You will be guided by both your off-campus coordinator and your employer, ensuring you stay on track!
  • Employee Conduct: Follow your employer’s policies and procedures
  • Attendance: Regular attendance is crucial. Notify your employer of any absences.
  • Hours of Work: Work between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., Monday through Sunday.
  • Compensation: Payment is not required. Any pay received by the student from the employer is at the employer’s discretion.
  • Workers’ Compensation: Students working at approved workstations are covered by Workers’ Compensation through Alberta Education.
