Student Feedback and Insights
At Vista Virtual School (VVS), we are committed to providing the best learning experience possible. Part of that commitment is listening to our students’ experiences—both successes and areas for improvement. This page is designed for prospective students to explore real feedback from current and past students, offering insights into what VVS has to offer. By sharing these perspectives, we aim to help you make an informed decision about whether VVS is the right fit for your educational needs.
If you are a current VVS student, we welcome your feedback on your experience. We highly value constructive feedback and see it as essential to continuously enhancing our students’ academic journey.
“Vista allowed me to explore my interests through several option classes”
At Vista Virtual School, we offer a diverse selection of core and elective courses to meet the needs of different students. This includes Off-Campus Programs such as Community Volunteerism, Work Experience, and Career Internship 10. To learn more about these opportunities, visit our Course Catalogue.
“The beginning is the hardest part, but after you’re used to it, it gets easier and becomes fun in a way.”
Adjusting to the online format can feel overwhelming at first, as you learn to manage your time and stay on track independently. Over time, you will develop habits to stay organized, prioritize tasks, and reach out for help when needed. As you practice these skills, they will become second nature. With more confidence in managing your workload and meeting deadlines, you may even find it enjoyable to explore your interests and take charge of your learning. By the end, you will not only achieve academic success but also gain valuable skills for the future
“My course timeline is unrealistic”
We understand that some students find the course timelines challenging. However, the time allocated is designed to ensure thorough understanding and a solid foundation for future learning.
- Grades 1-9: Dedicating 30 hours per week allows for a comprehensive understanding of the subjects covered.
- Grades 10-12: The allocation of 30 hours per week for a full course load or 8 hours per week for each 5-credit course is designed to help you excel academically.
These timelines are intended to support your growth and success. By managing your time effectively and taking responsibility for your progress, you’ll be set to meet and even exceed expectations. If you ever feel overwhelmed, reach out to your teachers or school counsellors—they are here to help.
“I think I did better on my assignment than the grade I received”
Each VVS course has assigned markers who are certified teachers with subject expertise. These markers are responsible for grading, and we trust their professional judgment. Student work will not be remarked or regraded unless a mathematical error is identified. Occasionally, a marker may change due to vacation, illness, or other reasons, but all markers are equally qualified professionals.
Receiving a grade lower than expected can be disappointing. Remember, grades don’t always fully capture your effort. Seeking feedback from your instructor can help clarify where marks may have been lost and guide you in making improvements. Approach this with an open mind and see it as part of the learning journey.
“How do I write course exams?”
Our school uses Proctorio to administer online exams, unless alternative arrangements are made with your teacher or inclusive education coordinator. To use Proctorio, ensure you have a laptop or desktop with a webcam and microphone. If Proctorio isn’t suitable for you, please book an in-person appointment at our Calgary campus by calling 1-855-974-5333 ext. 6200.
For diploma exams, students must write at a designated VVS Writing Centre. These centers are located in the Pembina Hills School Division (e.g., Barrhead or Westlock) and Calgary. Students are advised not to attempt registration at Alberta Education’s Provincial Writing Centres.
“Can I use AI to help me with schoolwork?”
At VVS, we uphold high standards for academic integrity. We use plagiarism detection software, which includes identifying AI-generated content. Recently, we have seen more students attempt to use AI for assignments, and such attempts are easily detectable. Please review our Plagiarism Policy for full guidelines.
Students are expected to work independently and avoid collaboration with classmates or sharing assignments on platforms like Course Hero. Maintaining academic integrity is crucial for your growth and success.
“Who can I ask if I need help in my course?”
If you need help, reach out to your teacher directly, they are here to support you. Working consistently and asking for help as needed is essential, as last-minute requests may not be accommodated before assignment deadlines.
Teacher Office Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 4:00 pm (excluding statutory holidays).
