Land Acknowledgement
With respect, and in the spirit of truth and reconciliation, Vista Virtual School honours and acknowledges that, here in Alberta, Treaties 4, 6, 7, 8 and 10 – as well as many unsigned treaties – are the traditional and ancestral territories of many diverse Indigenous Peoples: the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of Kainai, Piikani and Siksika Nations), Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney Nakoda, Tsuut’ina, Inuit and the Métis Peoples of Alberta.
We acknowledge and give thanks to the many First Nations, Métis and Inuit Peoples who have lived on and cared for these lands for generations and the many others whose histories, languages and cultures continue to influence our community. We are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are still with us today and those who have gone before us. We are committed to ensuring the spirit of all Treaties are honoured and respected.
We make this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation and gratitude to those whose territory we reside on or are visiting.
