Welcome to Vista Virtual School!
We are a public distance education school offering grade 1-12 programming for Alberta students. We are part of the Pembina Hills School Division.
We are the school of choice for many families who prefer distance learning for its flexibility and safety. Like traditional schools, we operate a regular school year from September through June. High school courses are semestered. We also offer high school courses during the summer.
What we offer
Vista Virtual School delivers grade 1 to 12 curriculum via distance learning. Our elementary and junior high course content is mostly print-based with some online courses, while our high school course content is entirely online.
Student-teacher relationships are critical to student success and despite the distance delivery, our programs are designed to rely on engaging interactions. Our teachers communicate regularly with students within the courses, through email, text, video chat, and phone calls.
Our teachers are always ready to help and expect students to ask for assistance regarding coursework and assignments. We strive to keep students and parents informed of progress on a regular basis.
Like other schools, we have Student Parent Teacher Interviews, a graduation ceremony, an awards ceremony, and interesting field trips planned throughout the year to help connect our wider school community.
Many of our high school students are enrolled with their resident school board but for various reasons seek alternative ways to complete their high school program. We provide instruction to these students through service agreements between the Pembina Hills School Division and their resident board.
Adults can also complete academic upgrading of high school classes to complete their high school diploma, improve high school marks, learn a new skill, or fulfill post-secondary requirements.
