About VVS
VVS is proud to be the school of choice for Alberta families seeking a high-quality education that fits their lifestyle. We offer semester-based core and elective online courses, delivered asynchronously by dedicated teachers who provide clear academic timelines for each course. This approach is designed to empower students to take responsibility for their education.
Time Commitment
Grades 10-12 students typically spend about 30 hours per week on a full course load (15-20 credits), with each 5-credit course requiring about 8 hours per week. All assessments are submitted through Moodle, ensuring a streamlined process.
Mark Reporting
Our courses align with Alberta Programs of Study learning outcomes and we report results to parents, guardians, and Alberta Education. For more details, review our Senior High Mark Reporting and Course Withdrawal Policy.
Asynchronous Learning
As previously mentioned, our courses are delivered asynchronously. This means that students do not attend a class at a specific time, rather they complete their assignments according to the schedule outlined by their course teachers. This allows students to work at their own pace and around other commitments, while also having an outline to help them stay organized and motivated.
Comprehensive Course Offerings
By enrolling with VVS, students can be assured that all their high school courses will be recorded on their Alberta transcript and myPass account. For a complete list of our course offerings and required materials, please visit our Course Catalogue.
INTRODUCTION
Check out this short introductory video of our Principal, Steven Kaplan, describing the types of students we typically see enroll in our grade 10-12 programming.
AM I A PRIMARY OR A NON-PRIMARY STUDENT?
We offer Primary and Non-Primary registration in grade 10-12 courses.
What’s my student type?
Primary students are students who are registered with VVS for a majority of their programming in a school year. VVS cannot accept new primary students after the first semester registration deadline.
Non-Primary students are high school students who are currently registered with a school outside the Pembina Hills School Division, which Vista Virtual School (VVS) is affiliated with. These students can take up to 5 credits per semester with VVS. To be eligible, a Non-Primary student must have a primary school enrollment, meaning they must be enrolled in another Alberta high school by September 30 of the current school year. Note: Senior High Home Education students are eligible to take up to 5 credits per year.
We accept Non-Primary high school registrations directly from students and parents, not from schools or school divisions.
- Want to take more than 10 credits with us? Reach out to your primary school about putting an Education Services Agreement (ESA) in place!
