Grades 1-9

We are proud to be the school of choice for Alberta families who want a high-quality education that suits their lifestyle. Our dedicated teachers deliver engaging course content asynchronously and provide academic timelines for each course. This approach is designed to empower students to take responsibility for their education.

At VVS, we understand the importance of academic timelines, and our teachers work tirelessly to ensure students stay on track. Our students receive exceptional support through email, telephone, and virtual meetings.

We offer an extensive catalogue of courses, designed to meet all of the learning outcomes in the Alberta Programs of Study. Like any other school in Alberta, we report results to parents/guardians and Alberta Education.

INTRODUCTION

Check out this short introductory video of our Associate Principal, Treena Bradbury, describing the types of students we typically see enroll in our grades 1-9 programming.

PRIMARY STUDENTS

We exclusively offer full-time programming for students in grades 1 to 9. This means that grade 1-9 students are registered for the full school year and are expected to complete their courses in June. What’s my student type? *2023/2024 school year

Primary students are students who are registered with VVS for a majority of their programming in a school year. Please note that Primary students must be enrolled with Vista Virtual School by September 30 of the current school year.

Grades 1-3 courses are print-based, grade 4-6 courses are a combination of online and print, and grades 7-9 courses are online. All students are required to submit assignments electronically into Moodle. Visit our Course Catalogue for a full list of our course offerings.

We offer a differentiated, adapted and/or modified personalized learning program for students in grade 1-9 who are unable to achieve success in regular programming. See our Personalized Learning page for more information.

Grade 1-9 students can expect to work at least 30 hours per week on schoolwork.

Those looking to withdraw from a course must fill out and submit a Course Withdrawal Request Form. Students under 18 must have their withdrawal form filled out by a parent or guardian.
