Grades 1-9
We are proud to be the school of choice for Alberta families who want a high-quality education that suits their lifestyle. Our dedicated teachers deliver engaging course content asynchronously and provide academic timelines for each course. This approach is designed to empower students to take responsibility for their education.
Students in grades 1-9 take core courses in Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies, with Health added for grades 7-9. Grades 1-3 use print-based courses, while grades 4-12 use online courses. All assignments are submitted electronically through Moodle. Expect your child to spend at least 30 hours a week on schoolwork. We offer an adapted and modified personalized learning program for students in grade 1-9 who require support outside the scope of mainstream programming. See our Personalized Learning page for more information.
All VVS courses are asynchronous which means that students do not attend a class at a specific time, rather they complete their assignments according to the schedule outlined by their course teachers. This allows students to work at their own pace and around other commitments, while also having an outline to help them stay organized and motivated.
We offer an extensive catalogue of courses, designed to meet all of the learning outcomes in the Alberta Programs of Study. Like any other school in Alberta, we report results to parents/guardians and Alberta Education.
INTRODUCTION
Check out this short introductory video of our Associate Principal, Treena Bradbury, describing the types of students we typically see enroll in our grades 1-9 programming.
PRIMARY STUDENTS
We exclusively offer full-time programming for students in grades 1 to 9. This means that grade 1-9 students are registered for the full school year and are expected to complete their courses in June.
Primary students are students who are registered with VVS for a majority of their programming in a school year. What’s my student type?
