Summer School – International

Make the most of your summer with Vista Virtual School! Take online courses to complete an Alberta high school diploma, upgrade marks, develop new skills, or meet post-secondary requirements.

Summer Programming

Select courses available – see our Course Catalogue
Take up to 5 credits with VVS.
Grade 9 → 10 students can take courses without prerequisites, such as CALM, PE, or intro CTS.

Asynchronous Online Learning

No live classes! Log in and study any time of day.
Submit assignments according to course timeline.
Plan on working 20 hours per week for a 5-credit course.
Contact teachers by email, phone, or virtual meeting during school hours.

Accredited by Alberta Education

VVS is a public school under Pembina Hills School Division.
Courses follow Alberta’s Programs of Study.
Marks are recorded on the Alberta high school transcript and myPass.

ELIGIBLE STUDENTS

To register, an international/out-of-province summer student must:

Be 19 or younger as of September 1 of the current school year.
Not normally live in Alberta (although you may be here temporarily).
Not be registered for the requested summer course at another summer school.
Complete the prerequisite course prior to registration.
- Prerequisite course marks must be on the Detailed Academic Report (DAR) in myPass by June 1, 2026.
- VVS does not accept “In Progress” prerequisites or offer conditional acceptance.

Additional Information

If you are overseas, you may experience difficulties accessing Moodle. In such cases, using a VPN service may be necessary to ensure access.
If using a school Chromebook, make sure that Proctorio is installed on your device before your primary school closes for the summer. Only your primary school can install it.
Online Inclusive Education Support may be limited due to the condensed course content and timeline. If you need extensive or unique exam accommodations, speak with an Inclusive Education Coordinator before you register.

Registration opens:	April 13, 2026
Registration closes: Includes requesting a course add/switch	June 1, 2026 at 3:00 pm**
First day of Summer School: Courses open in Moodle; Teachers available starting July 2	July 1, 2026
August Diploma Exam registration closes:	July 6, 2026 at 3:00 pm
Deadline to request a course withdrawal with tuition refund:	July 16 at 12:00 pm
Course exam week:	July 27–30, 2026
Last day of Summer School: Students must follow teachers’ timeline for submission deadlines	July 30, 2026
August Diploma Exams:	August 4–12, 2026

*Important Dates subject to change. Check back for more summer school dates.
**Students must have a completed prerequisite course mark on their DAR before the registration deadline.
***Students should not be away for more than 3 days at a time, and no more than 6 days total during the summer term.

COURSE FEES AND REFUNDS

Full payment is required within 72 hours of registration approval. Unfortunately, VVS cannot accept partial payments, or payment plans.

Textbook & Material Fees	Varies – Pricing can be found in our Course Catalogue Materials are *fully refundable* if returned within *30 days* of the semester end date in reusable condition per our Refund Policy.
PHSD Technology Fee	$35 per school year
Shipping Options
Ship Materials to Alberta Address	$25 per order On October 8, shipping fees increased from $20 due to the Canada Post strike and having to use an alternate courier.
Ship Materials to an Address Outside of Alberta	$25 minimum or full cost of shipping fees per order
Pickup Materials from Calgary Campus	No cost
Additional Fees
Course Switch Fee Applies to each course switch (add and withdraw) made after enrollment	$25 per course switch request
Withdrawal Processing Fee A withdrawal processing fee is deducted from the tuition refund if a request is made before the withdrawal deadline. Unfortunately, course withdrawals requested after the deadline are not eligible for any tuition refund.	$150 per course
Diploma Exam Fee	$60 per exam

AUGUST DIPLOMA EXAM INFORMATION

Our Diploma Exams webpage contains information on dates, times and locations. Locations have not been decided for August 2026 at this time.

Alberta Grade 12 diploma exams are required to receive a final transcript mark in diploma exam courses.
Diploma exams are not the same as VVS course final exams; students must write both.
