Am I An Adult Learner or a School-Aged Student?

SUMMER SCHOOL

Adult Students – students 20 years of age as of September 1 of the current school year are classified as ADULT students

Adult students can take courses in summer school to enhance their course grades, catch up on any courses they have missed, or prepare for upcoming diploma exams.

School Aged Students – students 19 years of age, or younger, as of September 1 of the current school year are classified as SCHOOL-AGED students

High school students can take up to 10 credits in summer school, including one core course, to upgrade, advance or explore new subjects, within a six-week period, but cannot enroll in the same course with another school.

ADULT UPGRADING

Students 20 years of age or older as of September 1 of the current school year are considered adult learners.

GRADES 1-9

Students in grades 1-9 can expect to work at least 30 hours per week on schoolwork.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (GRADES 1-6)

Grades 1-3 courses are print-based and grade 4-6 courses are a combination of online and print.

JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL (GRADES 7-9)

Compulsory core courses for this program include Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Health, and all courses are offered online.

PERSONALIZED LEARNING PROGRAM (GRADES 1-9)

Tailored curriculum with research-based resources, customized assignments, and teacher modeling available for students with individual learning needs.

GRADES 10-12

Students 19 years of age, or younger, as of September 1 of the current school year* are classified as school-aged students and should follow one of the links below for their enrollment options. Grade 10-12 students can expect to work 30 hours per week for a full course load of 15-20 credits or 8 hours per week for each 5-credit course.

PRIMARY STUDENTS (FULL-TIME)

Students who are registered with VVS for a majority of their programming in a school year.

NON-PRIMARY STUDENTS (PART-TIME)

Students who are registered with a school in another authority (other than Pembina Hills School Division) and would like to take courses (up to 5 credits per semester) with VVS.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

VVS offers instructions of the Alberta grades 1 to 12 curriculum to international students and children of Alberta families living abroad. Please note that there are associated fees.
